BOSSE – Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education, Sikkim is an Open School Board to cater to the varied academic needs of the divergent groups of students upto pre-degree level including Secondary and Senior Secondary and Skills & Vocational education. The Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education, Sikkim Act 2020 was passed on 21-09-2020 by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly stated under Act No. 14 of 2020.

Government of Sikkim authorized BOSSE

With the aim of strengthening the schooling education across the Nation, Government of Sikkim authorized BOSSE through Gazette notification (Act No. 14 of 2020) to impart education at Secondary / Sr. Secondary and Skill & Vocational education through different modes of learning. Flexible education system, combination of academic and vocational subjects, digital support through SWAYAM platform, transfer of credits upto 2 subjects passed from other Boards and offer of 100 plus vocational courses are some of the salient features of BOSSE.

Valid for higher studies and Government jobs

The Government of Sikkim through its Gazette notification no 14/LD/2020 dated 07-10-2020; has vested The Board of Open Schooling & Skill Education, Sikkim with the authority of conducting and certifying the examinations for Secondary / Sr. Secondary and Skill & Vocational education. As per the rules and Government of India Notification the certificates awarded by BOSSE for Secondary / Sr. Secondary and Skill & Vocational examination will be valid for higher studies and Government jobs, since this is recognized by State Government of Sikkim.

Approvals / Recognitions

1. BOSSE has been established under the Act No. 14 of 2020 by Govt. of Sikkim.

2. NIOS has included BOSSE, Sikkim as a recognized Board.

3. AIU has granted equivalency status to BOSSE and recognised BOSSE’s certificates for further studies.

4. BOSSE Received Letter of Appreciation from Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President of India.

5. Lt Gen Gurmit Singh’s (Governor of Uttarakhand) Appreciation Message To BOSSE.

Secondary Level Programme

Secondary level is equivalent to the Xth standard. Students are who are 14 years of age as on 31st August 2020 can take admission at secondary level and can choose their subjects choices from BOSSE scheme of subjects

Senior Secondary Level Programme

Senior Secondary level is equivalent to XIIth standard; students who are 16 years of age as on 31st August 2020 and who have successfully passed their X standard and now they need to pursue their senior secondary education may apply to this level of BOSSE. This certification of BOSSE is equivalent to the certificates provided by any other Board like NIOS, CBSE, CISE as well as other State Open Schools and State level Board. Students can choose their subjects choices from BOSSE scheme of subjects

Skill and Vocational Education

Skill and Vocational Education is a vital phase of nation education initiatives. Here, BOSSE has put all its efforts to make the Skills and Vocational education more inclusive, reliable, creative and relevant. As we are well aware of importance of Skill and Vocational education and we have taken a number of initiatives to it more effective and fruitful in terms of learner’s benefits. The main objective of BOSSE Skill segment is “how to synchronize the middle-level manpower to that of skilled occupations” to come over the gap of unemployment. Whether it is urban or rural sector; this section of Skill and Vocational education of BOSSE, Sikkim has proved more effective in the changing national context.
